It was a huge blow for the Bangladesh cricket team to watch cricketer like Shakib Al Hasan, who is the top-ranked ODI all-rounder, getting ban for one year, especially during this crucial time when the Indian Premier League and the ICC T20I World Cup are in the lineup.
However, Shakib Al Hasan has been found guilty of breaching the ICC Anti-Corruption Code not once but twice. He was charged for not reporting the approaches from an alleged Indian bookie, Deepak Agarwal. Once it was during a tri-series among Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe in January 2018 and later, during the IPL in April 2018.
As soon as the news of his ban came out, the social media was flooded with reactions from cricket pundits, fans and cricketers who slammed the cricketer for breaching the ICC protocol. And as if the ban was not enough, Michael Vaughan rubbed salt to the wounds of the all-rounder.
The former England skipper, Michael Vaughan took to Twitter to slam Shakib and said that the ICC should have banned the 32-year old for a longer period. He wrote:
“No sympathy what’s so ever for Shakib Al Hasan … Non what’s so ever … In this era the players get briefed all the time about what they can & cant do and what that have to report straight away … 2 yrs isn’t enough … Should have been longer …”

However, his tweet didn’t go down well with the fans of Shakib who trolled him left and right for his tweet. He has been on the receiving end of facing the wrath of the Bangladeshi fans. One of the fans went on to point fingers at the ex-cricketer’s cricket career and asked him to come to the same level first before giving his take on the matter. He wrote:
“Come to the same level first ??”

In reply to the fan’s tweet, Michael Vaughan came up with a fitting reply to shut the fan. He wrote:
“I was average .. I accept that .. but at least I wasn’t corrupt .. #Cheers #OnOn“

Talking about Shakib’s ban, the ICC handed him the ban of two years (1 of which is suspended) with immediate effect from October 29. Shakib can return to international cricket only from October 29, 2020.
