Former England skipper Michael Vaughan hailed the decision of Indian skipper Virat Kohli to step down from the captaincy position. On Thursday, Virat Kohli left everyone shocked with his decision to step down from the position of T20 captaincy after the ICC T20 World Cup in November this year. Virat will continue to play as a batsman in the shortest format of the game while leading the team in the Test and ODI formats.

Virat Kohli shared a long post revealing that he needs to give himself space in order to play all three formats for the country. He also cited workload from the last 8-9 years as one of the reasons behind his decision. He also added that he took the decision after having some important discussions with Indian head coach Ravi Shastri and senior batsman Rohit Sharma.

Virat Kohli claimed that he arrived at his decision after a lot of discussion with the Indian head coach Ravi Shastri and senior batsman Rohit Sharma. He wrote:

“Of course, arriving at this decision took a lot of time. After a lot of contemplation and discussions with my close people, Ravi bhai and also Rohit, who have been an essential part of the leadership group, I’ve decided to step down as the T20 Captain after this T20 World Cup in Dubai in October,”

He added:

“I have also spoken to the secretary Mr Jay Shah and the President of BCCI Mr Sourav Ganguly along with all the selectors about the same. I will continue to serve Indian Cricket and the Indian Team to the best of my ability,”

In his comment, Vaughan heaped praises on Virat and cited that this will give some space for Virat Kohli to relax a little away from all the pressures. He wrote:

“Well Done… that’s a very unselfish decision and also one which will give you some nice space to hopefully relax a little away from all the pressures,”
