Mohammed Shami Reacts To Mitchell Marsh Putting His Feet On World Cup Trophy

Senior India fast bowler Mohammed Shami was not impressed with Mitchell Marsh’s act of placing his feet on the World Cup trophy and clicking photos with it.

After Australia’s win in the World Cup 2023 final, a picture of all-rounder Mitchell Marsh putting his feet on the World Cup trophy in the Aussie dressing room during Australia’s celebration at the Narendra Modi Stadium went viral.

Fans slammed Marsh for this act, saying that he is disrespecting the coveted World Cup trophy.

Mohammed Shami, who was the leading wicket-taker in the tournament, too, echoed similar sentiments as the Indian fans. The pacer said that all teams compete hard for the precious World Cup trophy. He said that felt upset at Marsh’s manner of placing his feet on the trophy.

“I feel upset. Placing a foot on the trophy, the one every team competes for, the trophy you dream of raising, that didn’t make me happy,” Mohammed Shami said in an interview with PUMA recently.

The fact that Mohammed Shami ended as the leading wicket-taker in the tournament with 23 wickets despite not playing in the first four matches speaks of the incredible tournament he had with the ball.

India decided to play Shardul Thakur in the first four matches for some sort of apparent batting depth. But Hardik Pandya’s injury meant India had to bring in a specialist pacer in Shami in the side from the 5th match. Shami didn’t disappoint and went on a stunning wicket-taking spree.

Shami said that even when he was benched, he was happy to revel in the team’s success.

“When you’re benched for four matches, you must stay mentally strong. There might be moments of pressure, but witnessing the team excel and moving in a positive direction brings satisfaction,” the Bengal seamer added.
