‘You Hit Many Sixes Against Mumbai” – Sanju Samson Reveals What Rohit Sharma Told Him

Sanju Samson has revealed what captain Rohit Sharma told him after his non-selection in India’s squads over the past couple of months.

The Kerala batsman missed from India’s squads for the Asia Cup and World Cup 2023. However, the biggest dagger in the heart of Sanju Samson and his fans must have been his non-selection in India’s second-string side for the 5-T20I series against Australia. Ishan Kishan, Jitesh Sharma, and Tilak Varma have been picked over Sanju Samson for the series that started on Thursday.

However, Samson revealed an interesting conversation he had with skipper Rohit Sharma. Samson said Rohit was the first or the second guy to approach him and show him his support. He said Rohit was impressed with his performances in the IPL 2023, and even jokingly said that he hit too many sixes against Mumbai Indians, Rohit’s team.

Speaking on the I AM with Dhanya Varma YouTube channel, Sanju Samson revealed: “Rohit Sharma was the first or second person who came to me and talked. He told me ‘hey Sanju, wassup. You performed well in the IPL, but hit too many sixes against Mumbai Indians. You bat really well’.”

“I have always got great support from Rohit Bhai,” Samson added.

Sanju Samson

Samson last played for India in T20I series in Ireland in August. Despite doing well in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals in recent years, Sanju Samson has not been able to nail down his position in the Indian T20I squad.

Yes, he hasn’t been given a proper long run, but, in a team where multiple players are competing for every spot, Samson needed to make the most out of his opportunities, which he failed to do.

In 21 T20I innings, Samson averages only 19 at a strike rate of 133, with one fifty, against Ireland last year. It is also to point out that while Samson has done well at Rajasthan Royals, those knocks have come in the top 4, whereas India have been trying to slot him in the finisher’s role at numbers 5 and 6.

Earlier, in the tour of the West Indies, Samson featured in 3 innings, managing only 32 runs at a strike rate of 114.
