Former India off-spinner Harbhajan Singh is one of the few players who have played under the captaincy of the last three Indian skippers – Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and MS Dhoni.
He played under Rohit for 5 years at Mumbai Indians before shifting to Chennai Super Kings for a couple of seasons, winning IPL trophies with both franchises.
He’d played under Dhoni at the Indian team for a long time and won two World Cups before Kohli took over; although Bhajji played in only 2 international matches under Virat Kohli, he’s observed him from close quarters, first as a player and then as a commentator.
Harbhajan Singh has in recent times not been the biggest fan of Thala, and had picked Sourav Ganguly as the best India skipper, despite winning the 2007 T20 WC and 2011 ODI WC under Dhoni.
Recently, however, the Dhoni fans were left in surprise when Singh picked Dhoni as the captain over Kohli and Rohit. Thing is, when a fan asked his favorite captaincy pick between Rohit and Virat, the former off-spinner said Dhoni’s name, leaving the fans shocked because not only Thala wasn’t mentioned in the question, but also because Harbhajan has previously been trolled for picking Ganguly and Rohit over MSD.

In fact, it was only last year when Harbhajan had commented that the other players of the 2011 World Cup winning team do not get as much credit as Dhoni does.
“When Australia wins the World Cup at that time everyone says ‘Australia won the World Cup’. When India wins the World Cup at that time, eveeyone said, ‘MS Dhoni won the World Cup. Toh baaki ke 10 waha lassi peene gaye the?” said Harbhajan while speaking on Star Sports during the IPL 2022.
“What did the other 10 players do? What did Gautam Gambhir do? What did the others do? It’s a team game. When 7-8 players play well only then only your team will progress,” Harbhajan added.
