MS Dhoni Finally Broke His Silence On The Run-Out In The Semi-Final Against New Zealand

No Indian cricket fan can ever forget the visuals of MS Dhoni walking back to the pavilion with anger, sadness, and dejection on his face, after getting run-out in the semi-final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019. It was a heart-breaking moment for the nation as India failed to reach the final of the tournament and MS Dhoni, who has always been like a rock on the field, walked back to the pavilion for the last time in World Cup cricket.

MS Dhoni is one of the fastest runners in world cricket and it took a miraculous effort from New Zealand’s Martin Guptil to run him out. On the third delivery of the penultimate over, MS Dhoni played the ball on the on-side and ran hard for two runs. With Dhoni’s speed, it was looking comfortable but Martin Guptil came running hard and threw the ball directly on to the stumps from nowhere, finding MS Dhoni just short of the crease.

After a long gap, MS Dhoni has finally broken his silence on that run-out and said that he will keep asking himself why he didn’t dive to reach the crease. Recently, while speaking to India Today’s Consulting Editor Boria Majumdar, MS Dhoni opened up about that run-out and said:

“In my first game I was run-out and this game again I was run-out. I keep telling myself why didn’t I dive. Those two inches I still keep telling myself I should have dived,” MS Dhoni told India Today.

Hardik Pandya, who was a part of the Indian team in that semi-final also spoke about the run-out and said:

“For us to express the fact was a lot but that’s sports. The most difficult part was you have to sleep that night. But the biggest trauma was when MS got out.

“I just knew with that person we knew, he has done so many times and he is going to do one more time. It was a miracle throw from Martin Guptill. Otherwise, we were still confident.,” Pandya told India Today.
