IPL team CSK tweeted a magnificent photo of Dhoni practising for the big moment, sending fans into a nostalgic tizzy.
On Sunday, members of India’s cricket community will commemorate the 12-year anniversary of their team’s historic 2011 World Cup victory. India won the World Cup for the second time in MS Dhoni’s tenure as captain, beating Asian rivals Sri Lanka at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium with Dhoni hitting the famous winning six.

On the special occasion, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), a team in the Indian Premier League (IPL), tweeted a magnificent photo of Dhoni practising a shot from that unforgettable moment.
India’s chase of 275 was hampered early on when Lasith Malinga bowled out Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag to silence the Wankhede crowd. Then, Virat Kohli tried to hold off the attack by partnering with Gautam Gambhir for 83 runs before Gambhir fell to Tillakaratne Dilshan. Then, Gambhir and Dhoni put together a brilliant century stand to bring India within striking distance of the historic victory, but ultimately fell short.
But in the last over of the game, Dhoni finished off the chase by hitting a six over long on off the fuller delivery from Nuwan Kulasekara, prompting one of the most famous lines in Indian cricket history from Ravi Shastri: “Dhoni finishes off in style.”
The video also included pictures from that match in Mumbai and the caption read: โWhen nostalgia hits!โ

On Saturday, the day before the historic victory, CSK released a video showing MS Dhoni practising the famous six he hit in the 2011 World Cup.
On Friday, Dhoni scored seven-ball 14 against the Gujarat Titans in the opening game of the IPL 2023 season, sending the Ahmedabad crowd into a frenzy. Despite this promising start, CSK lost their fourth consecutive IPL match, three of which occurred in the previous season.
