This incident is of the Wellington Test during India’s 2014 tour to New Zealand. Brendon McCullum and BJ Watling were involved in a marathon partnership. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja was not at his accurate best, and Dhoni made it very clear what he wanted from his spinner.
The wicket-keeper quipped, “Ispe ek ghumega toh idhar Pujara ko ussi ke liye rakha hai, who udhar taali bajane ke liye nahi hai”. This translates to “If the ball turns, I have kept Cheteshwar Pujara in the slips for catching. He is not standing there just to clap.”
MS Dhoni vents out his anger on Manish Pandey
MS Dhoni getting angry or showing his raw emotions is a rare sight on the cricket field. However, in the intensity of the situation, Dhoni once let out his anger with Manish Pandey facing the wrath.
During a T20I in Centurion against South Africa in 2018, ‘Captain Cool’ lost his calmness and hurled down an expletive towards the non-striker Manish Pandey. In the last over of India’s innings, Pandey completed a single but Dhoni wanted to come back for a double while Pandey was ball-watching and didn’t look at his partner at the other end.
A furious Dhoni sent down a mouthful towards Pandey. The former skipper was heard saying, “Oye bh******, idhardekh le, udhardekhrhahai,” adding “apna ho gaya bas.” This got the fans in a burst of real laughter.
Udhar girlfriend nahi hai
MS Dhoni once again showed his comical side when he taunted Sreesanth for his being lethargic in the field during a home Test match against the Kiwis.
“Oye shree udhar girlfriend nahi hai, idhar aaja thoda,” the skipper was heard telling the pacer.
‘Hindi main nahi bol skta’
What happens when the batsman understands the language Dhoni wants to communicate with Jadeja. During an IPL 2021 game between CSK and RCB, Jadeja had dismissed both AB de Villiers and Glenn Maxwell after Dhoni had instructed him in Hindi.
However, as Harshal Patel entered to bat, MS Dhoni was quick to tell Jadeja that they cannot converse in Hindi now as Patel would understand it. “Ab Hindi me nahi bol sakta hun,” the CSK skipper jokingly said that got Jadeja and the commentators laughing.
MS Dhoni trolls Kevin Pietersen
This is a very famous and one of the most hilarious replies from MS Dhoni that showcased his elite sense of humour. Playing for Rising Pune Supergiant in the IPL, Manoj Tiwary was speaking with the commentators including Kevin Pietersen with an earpiece attached to his ear.
Kevin Pietersen asked Tiwary to say that he is a better golfer than Dhoni. “Manoj, just tell MS that I am a better golfer than him,” Pietersen told Tiwary in order to take a jibe at the wicket-keeper.
Dhoni shot back with a sharp wit, “He is still my first Test wicket!” This left everyone in the commentary box to burst into laughter. An embarrassed Kevin Pietersen could only remind everyone that “it was a referral, it was a referral.”
