Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter and Chennai Kings skipper MS Dhoni was a happy man last night as he led his Yellow Army — Chennai Super Kings to its fourth title win. Chennai Super Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders in the final showdown by 27 runs to lift their fourth trophy (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021).
MS helped his team register a remarkable comeback in IPL 2021 as they won their 4th title after missing out on the play-offs berth for the first time in their history last year in the UAE. Despite not being able to contribute much with the bat as much as he used to do it during his golden days, Dhoni marshaled his Yellow Army with so much confidence as CSK roared back to form.
However, after the match, before showering praises on his troops, MS Dhoni hailed Kolkata Knight Riders by saying “If any team that deserved to win this year’s IPL, it was KKR.”
Although Kolkata Knight Riders failed to score big on the final showdown and went down to CSK by 27 runs, the Eoin Morgan-led side made a dramatic comeback to reach the final clash. From sitting at the bottom of the table, when IPL 2021 was postponed earlier this year to cementing their place in the final match — the two-time champions impressed everyone with their terrific journey.
After the match, during the post-match ceremony, Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni hailed Kolkata Knight Riders for putting up a great show in IPL 2021 and won hearts with his kind words for the Knights. He said:
“Before I start talking about CSK I think it’s important that I talk about KKR. The position they were in the first half of IPL, it is very difficult to come back and do what they have really done. If any team deserved to win this year’s IPL, I feel it was KKR.”
He added:
“Big credit to the support staff and all the players because it’s not really easy whenever the team is not doing well, it becomes a difficult task. I think the break really helped them. Tremendous performance,”
