"Elephant Covered In Dust": Navjot Singh Sidhu Hailed Rohit Sharma With A Heartfelt Video

Former Indian opening batsman Navjot Singh Sidhu praised star batter Rohit Sharma, who is currently playing for Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

This season, Rohit is playing under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya at MI, as he was removed from his captaincy role before the start of the season. MI has lost both of their games in IPL 2024 so far, against Gujarat Titans (GT) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH). Rohit has scored 43 and 26 runs, respectively, in those matches.

Sidhu expressed his admiration for Rohit Sharma on social media platform X, stating that Mumbai Indians are fortunate to have a player of Rohit’s caliber in their team. He encapsulated Rohit’s excellence with one of his characteristic poems. He wrote:

“हाथी चाहे धूल में सना हो फिर भी सम्मानित होगा |
कूकर को सोने की ज़ंज़ीरो में भी बांध दो सम्मानित नहीं होता | @ImRo45 #IPL2024″

(Which roughly translates to: “Even if the elephant is covered in dust, it will still be respected. Even tying the dog with a gold chain does not make one respectable,”)

Since joining Mumbai Indians in 2011 as a promising young talent, Rohit Sharma has become a stalwart for the team. He has played 199 IPL matches for Mumbai Indians, scoring 5,084 runs with an average of 29.39 and a strike rate of 129.86. During his time with the team, Rohit has scored one century and 34 fifties in 195 innings, with his highest score being 109 not out.

After taking over the captaincy from Ricky Ponting in 2013, Rohit led Mumbai Indians to great success, winning the IPL trophy five times in 10 years (in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020) and reaching the playoffs twice. Last year, Hardik Pandya took over the captaincy from Rohit after joining the team from Gujarat Titans, where he had two successful seasons, including winning the title in 2022.

Rohit Sharma has achieved remarkable success with Mumbai Indians, winning two Champions League T20 titles in 2011 and 2013, the latter as captain. Known as the ‘Hitman,’ he holds the record for the most runs scored by any Mumbai Indians player, amassing 5,357 runs in 208 matches and 204 innings. His average is nearly 29.59, and he has a strike rate of almost 130. Rohit has scored one century and 35 fifties during his time with the team.

In their upcoming match, Mumbai Indians will take on Rajasthan Royals on Monday.
