Meanwhile, Navjot Singh Sidhu considers Virat Kohli the top Indian batter due to his exceptional fitness, especially as he enters his mid-thirties, showcasing his enduring commitment to excellence.

“I would rate Kohli as the greatest Indian batsmen for the simple reason, his fitness, he is getting fitter with age like old wine does. Technically very sound and he has the uncanny knack of adapting to all three formats, same goes for Rohit (Sharma),” Sidhu told the news agency PTI.

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli returned to the T20I team of India in January this year after an absence of more than a year. For the unversed, Virat and Rohit Sharma were not picked in the T20I format following the T20 World Cup before they were recalled for the 3-match T20I series against Afghanistan at home.

Sidhu believes India will rely on both Kohli and Rohit in the 2024 T20 World Cup, considering their return to the T20I squad earlier this year after a 13-month hiatus.

“They will be needed there. These are giants of cricketing world. Form is like the morning dew, it can elude you but class of these people has stamp of authority,”

He added: “Both are quality players. I am not sure about Rohit’s fitness levels. With age you tend to slow down, your reflexes tend to go. (Virender) Sehwag with those glasses, his reflexes were not the same, I saw it in the IPL,”
