As expected, the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) owner and CEO, Kavya Maran, was a popular talking point among the fans on the IPL 2024 auction day.
SRH had gone into the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai with a hefty purse of INR 34 crore, and consequently, Kavya Maran went on a shopping spree in the first couple of hours of the auction, targetting the big-name marquee players, the biggest of SRH’s acquisition was Australian ODI and Test captain and fast bowler, Pat Cummins.
Apart from his pace bowling, Cummins has also increased his reputation as a pace-hitter with the bat and an inspiring, successful captain this year with Australia.
Kavya was able to secure the services of Pat Cummins for the IPL 2024 auction at a bumper price of INR 20.5 crore, staving the competition with RCB. Cummins became the then most expensive IPL player ever, beating Sam Curran’s 18.5 crore price tag by Punjab Kings in the last auction. But this record stayed with Cummins for only about 90 minutes as KKR shelled out INR 24.75 crore for Mitchell Starc.
Sunrisers Hyderabad roped in two more international stars – Travis Head and Wanindu Hasaranga – and among their Indian acquisitions were Jaydev Unadkat, Akash Maharaj Singh, and Jhathavedh Subramanyam.
