Sri Lanka batsman Niroshan Dickwella was left surprised during the media-interaction after the end of the second day’s play of the ongoing first Test between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in Rawalpindi. When Dickwella arrived for the conference, he was mistaken for his teammate Dhananjaya de Silva.
Well, as hilarious as it may sound, the journalist didn’t even know Dickwella as the reporter called the cricketer de Silva, who is his teammate. And that not once but twice, even after Dickwella had corrected him.
Yes, you read that right. During the interview, the journalist began interviewing Dickwella by saying “you played well…” to this Dickwella interjected by saying: “I’m Dickwella actually. I’m not de Silva”. But seems like the journalists didn’t pay any attention to what the cricketer said as another journalist made the mistake once again and asked him if he is thinking of making a century in Pakistan’s field. The journalist said:
“You played well on this pitch and in these conditions. Are you thinking a hundred on this pitch?”
Instead of being irritated by repeated mistakes, Dickwella gave a very humble yet funny response. He said with a laugh:
“You mean me? I am Dickwella, not de Silva,”
He added:
“I got out. I am already out in the pavilion. Maybe in the second innings.”
In fact, Dickwella had returned back to the pavilion after scoring 33 in the first innings while de Silva was still unbeaten at stumps having scored a fighting 72.
The video of the media interaction has been making rounds on the internet. People just can’t stop slamming Pakistan’s journalists for not doing homework before interviewing the cricketers and making a joke of themselves.
