Veteran wicketkeeper–batsman Dinesh Karthik, who was touted as the next big thing in the Indian cricket team when he made his debut, hasn’t played any international game for team India following World Cup 2019. His journey as a professional cricketer has been a full circle, with him facing highs and lows in his career. Karthik has represented team India in 26 Tests, 94 ODIs, and 32 T20Is.
Dinesh Karthik has played many memorable knocks for team India and for Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL. But, despite the records, DK didn’t get as many chances as he deserved.
DK suffered the biggest setback when he couldn’t save his place in the Test squad for a long time despite scoring runs in the Test series played on England soil in the year 2007.
After that, DK got a chance to play in the series against Pakistan but he remained out of the playing XI in the Test series on the Australian tour. Following that, DK got a chance to play in the series against Pakistan however once again he remained out of the playing XI in the Test series on the Australian tour.
Dinesh Karthik has a record that still remains unbroken. DK is the only Indian cricketer to Indian wicketkeeper-batsman to win the Man of the Match award twice in T20 format.
Karthik was named man of the match in India’s first T20match against South Africa. The Men in Blue won that match by 6 wickets. DK had saved the day for team India by scoring 31 runs in 28 balls.
Following this, DK was adjudged with the Man of the Match award after a match against Bangladesh in the final of the Nidahas Trophy played in Sri Lanka in 2018. In that match, DK gave a thrilling performance by scoring 29 runs in 8 balls. Needing 12 runs to win the final, Karthik hit one of the flattest six over extra cover off Soumya Sarka’s final ball.
