The Indian cricket team is all set to start its campaign in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 with a high-voltage match against Pakistan at the Melbourne Cricket Crowd. All eyes from the Indian side will be on former captain Virat Kohli, who has a brilliant record in the competition. Kohli has won the Player of the Match (POTM) award twice in the tournament (2014, 2016), however, he is yet to lift the trophy. In the T20 World Cup, Kohli has faced Pakistan four times, scoring 226 runs with 3 half-centuries to his name, and has only been dismissed just once.
Now ahead of the big clash, Virat opened up on his friendship with the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma. He revealed that they both share the same vision for the team. He had taken over the captaincy of the Indian team after last year’s T20 World Cup in the UAE, where the Indian cricket team suffered an embarrassing exit for the knockouts. Speaking to Star Sports’ show ‘Cricket live’, Virat Kohli said:
“Our discussions are always on how do we win big tournaments and then, our planning and preparations are directed towards that. Ever since I have come back to the team, the atmosphere has been very good. Whenever there’s this healthy camaraderie within the group, then you look forward to doing anything you can for the team. So, our understanding and vision for the game has always been similar,”
He added: “We always work towards covering all the loopholes no matter how small they are. We solidify such aspects and move ahead. It’s very free flowing and all pointed towards our main goal,”
Virat, who was going through a tough patch in his career, had bounced back strongly in the 2022 Asia Cup and scored his long-awaited 71st international century. He is expected to play a big role in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022.
