India’s World Cup winning coach Gary Kirsten has been named Pakistan’s new coach in the white-ball format of the game ahead of the much-awaited t20i World Cup 2024. While Jason Gillespie has been named as the Test coach.

Earlier today, the Pakistan Cricket Board announced on their official X (formerly Twitter) account that Gary Kirsten will coach Pakistan’s ODI and T20I teams, while former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie will handle the Test team. Azhar Mahmood, the interim head coach, will assist across all formats.

“Both Kirsten and Gillespie are famous and experienced coaches and their appointment confirms the trust the international community has in our team,” Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Mohsin Naqvi told reporters in Lahore.
Kirsten will join Babar Azam and the team on their upcoming tour of England next month. Pakistan is gearing up for the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies, playing four T20Is in England as part of their preparation. They’ll also have three T20 internationals in Ireland before heading to the USA for the tournament.
Speaking about his new job of coaching the Pakistan cricket team ahead of the T20I World Cup 2024, Gary Kirsten said:
“My goal is to unite the Pakistan men’s white-ball team, harnessing their considerable talents towards a common objective, and achieving success together on the field,” Kirsten said in a statement issued by the PCB on Sunday.
