On the evening of February 15, Wednesday, 23-year-old Prithvi Shaw went to a hotel in Santacruz when a few fans came for selfies. Shaw obliged and posed with them, but the same group of people returned upon which Shaw refused them, saying he’s come to dinner with his friends.

When they didn’t leave Shaw, he complained about them to the hotel manager, who asked those fans to leave the hotel.

After finishing their evening, when Shaw came out of the hotel, those people and some more were there with baseball bats.

Prithvi’s friend’s car, a BMW, was vandalized as the accused used baseball bats to smash the front and rear windows of the vehicle.

The complainant said that Prithvi was in the car, and was shifted to another car, but the accused chased them. Shaw’s friend’s car was stopped near Jogeshwari’s Lotus petrol pump where a female came and said that she wants to be paid INR 50, 000 to close the matter, otherwise, she will file false charges against them.

After this incident, the complainant, Shaw’s friend Ashish Surendra Yadav, came to the Oshiwara Police Station and filed a case. The police contacted the hotel staff who had taken the names and contact numbers of people who had taken selfie with Shaw and provided it to the police. The two were identified as Sana alias Sapna Gill and Shobhit Thakur.

Oshiwara Police have booked the 8 people under several sections of the Indian Penal Code for unlawful assembly and using weapons for offence (143, 148,149, 384, 437, 504, 506) after the incident.

Meanwhile, the 23-year-old Prithvi Shaw will next be seen in action in the IPL 2023 season, opening for Delhi Capitals. Shaw was recently recalled to the Indian team, after a year-and-half, for the T20I series against New Zealand, but didn’t get a chance as India persisted with Gill and Kishan, with Gill hammering a century in the third T20I.
