Prithvi Shaw Will Replace Rohit Sharma In Mumbai Indians For IPL 2025

Prithvi Shaw arrived at the cricket scene with a lot of promise. He was shattering record in the domestic tournaments and also went on to lead India to a championship trophy in the U-19 World Cup. There was a lot of hype around him based on the sheer amount of class and the flair that he posses. He is a typical hand eye coordination player who is free flowing and goes for his shots. People were terming him as the next Sachin Tendulkar and were eager to see how he goes around in the Indian Cricket team.

He arrived on to the scene with fire as he scored his maiden test century in his debut test match. All was going well for him until that dreaded Adelaide test against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar trophy in 2020-21.  Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins found out the chink in his armour. Shaw does not move his feet and there always remains a big gap between his bad and pad. Starc used it it to his favour and got the pink ball to swing back through that gap and castle his stumps. In the second innings, Pat Cummins used it to his favour and the result was the same.

It has never been the same for Prithvi Shaw from that moment. He has yet to make his comeback in the Indian playing XI from that game and it’s 2024. He did not work on his fitness and recent videos of him displayed the wight that he has gained which severely impacts his playing prospects. However, everyone still felt that Shaw will make his comeback in the IPL 2024, after playing for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy. However, DC did not field him in the playing XI in the first 2 games. May be, they are still concerned about his fitness and also his form.

Prithvi Shaw Will Replace Rohit Sharma In Mumbai Indians For IPL 2025

Meanwhile, fast forward to the Mumbai Indians camp, all is not well within that camp. MI bought back Hardik Pandya ahead of IPL 2024 and appointed him as the captain replacing the five times IPL winning captain Rohit Sharma. Fans rioted in social media citing that the Indian captain and the legendary MI captain has been insulted. It was not just restricted to the social media. Hardik Pandya received severe boos, jeers and abused in their first two games in Ahmedabad and Hyderabad. Moreover, reports also emerged that all is not well between Rohit Sharma and Mumbai Indians.

Next year, we do have the mega auction ahead of the IPL 2025. So, it’s very likely that Rohit Sharma will not be retained by Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL 2025. There are murmurs that Prithvi Shaw will be bought by Mumbai Indians to replace the MI’s legendary opener. Shaw does have the free flowing strokes just like Rohit Sharma and also the extraordinary talent. So, he may be the like-for-like replacement in the opening spot for Mumbai Indians. However, all these are just assumptions. It will all depend on how Delhi uses Shaw in the upcoming games and how well does shaw performs in those if given the chance.
