South Africa’s young wicketkeeper batsman Quinton de Kock has become the fastest wicketkeeper-batsman to score 3000 runs in One Day International (ODI) cricket. De Kock made his ODI debut for South Africa just 4 years ago and he is already world’s number 5th batsman in ODI cricket, as per the latest ICC ODI rankings.

In the last match of the recently concluded ODI series between South Africa and Sri Lanka, Quinton de Kock broke MS Dhoni’s record to become the fastest wicket-keeper to score 3000 One-Day international runs. It was De Kock’s 74th ODI match and he is way too fast to 3000 ODI runs as compared to Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Adam Gilchrist, and Brendon Taylor.

Quinton de Kock- 74 matches

MS Dhoni- 90 ODI matches

Adam Gilchrist- 95 ODI matches

Brendon Taylor- 105 ODI matches

De Kock has been in brilliant form for South Africa at the top of the order in ODI cricket. He plays a very aggressive brand of cricket and always looks to attack the new ball. He has a wide range of strokes which makes him a good all-round batsman.

However, it is noteworthy that MS Dhoni has batted low down the order for the majority of ODI career and this is one of the biggest reasons why he took more matches than De Kock to score 3000 runs in ODI cricket.  But, to his credit, Quinton de Kock is far ahead of Adam Gilchrist and Brendan Taylor, both of whom were opening batsmen and took 95 and 105 matches respectively, to score 3000 ODI runs.
