R Ashwin Gave A Very Important Suggestion To The ICC For Test Cricket: In one of the bravest moments in Test cricket, Australian cricketer Nathan Lyon received a rousing reception as he walked out to bat with little to offer his team.
A dramatic collapse took place for the Australians, who had no answer to the short balls attack from the England pacers. Within the first two sessions of Day 4 eight wickets fell across for just 92 runs. And just when everyone thought it was over, Lyon walked out.
For those who are unaware, Nathan Lyon suffered a calf injury in the first innings and saw him on crutches that very morning when he had arrived at the venue. Yet he walked out there to show support towards his side.
He limped his way through to the middle and was seen in terrible pain after every delivery he played. Lyon managed four runs in the 13 balls he faced which included a 15-run stand for the last wicket alongside Mitchell Starc. He smashed a boundary against Stuart Broad and took a single for his partner that saw him hop on one leg to the other end of the crease.
Though, he couldn’t do much with the bat but as long as he was standing there, his partner Mitchell Starc could reach the other end and score some runs for his team.
R Ashwin Highlights The Importance Of Having Injury Replacements

While Nathan Lyon received generous and deserving applause from the Lord’s crowd for risking his injury further for the sake of the team. However, his heroism has once again exposed the issues in cricket’s substitution rules.
Former Indian cricketer R Ashwin, on Sunday, took to his social media and expressed his thoughts on the same. In his Tweet, he highlighted how it’s time to allow injury replacements. He wrote:
“Tight finish on the cards here. What a series👏👏 #Ashes2023
Food for thought: Australia could have shut this game down with Nathan Lyon doing his thing from one end, it’s probably time to look at substitutions for muscle tears just like concussion subs.
A like for like replacement will mean an even contest, especially for a format that lasts 5 days.”
