The pair of Virat Kohli and Ravi Shastri achieved numerous successes and took the Indian Test to new heights however the Indian cricket team will go through a lot of rebuilding in the Rahul Dravid era. Several traditions of the Indian team, that were vanishing, are now being brought back by the new head coach Rahul Dravid.
For instance, Rahul Dravid recently revived the age-old tradition by awarding Rs. 35,000 to the groundsmen first during the first Test match at Kanpur and then at the Wankhede Stadium for producing good pitches during the 2-Test match series, for making a commendable track.
This tradition of groundsmen receiving rewards for preparing good pitches had vanished completely. Earlier everyone from Kapil Dev to MS Dhoni, used to practice this tradition, however, this tradition was fading but Virat has now revived this tradition.
Not just this, Dravid has also revived the tradition of debutants receiving their first cap from giants of the game. Recently, we saw legendary batter Sunil Gavaskar giving the Test cap to debutant Shreyas Iyer. Rahul Dravid has made it a point to reinstate the practice.
If reports are to be believed then Rahul Dravid wants to stop the selection of players on the basis of the Indian Premier League. Dravid believes that no player can make a place in the Test team on the basis of IPL. Also, if any cricketer wants to make a comeback in the team, he will have to prove his match fitness and form.
Rahul Dravid has revived Anil Kumble’s policy, according to which players with unfit and poor form will be required to play domestic cricket to get a place in the Indian cricket team.
