Ravi Ashwin Recalls Life-Threatening Flight Experience From Melbourne To Sydney

Ravi Ashwin Recalls Life-Threatening Flight Experience From Melbourne To Sydney: Traveling around on flights is a regular part of the job of international cricket. Rarely has that been a concern for anyone, but for this occasion when Ravichandran Ashwin and the entire Indian team feared for their lives when on a flight from Melbourne to Sydney on the last Australia tour.

One of the greatest comebacks not just in cricket, but in all sports was India’s incredible, unbelievable series win in Australia last year.

After being embarrassingly bowled for out for India’s lowest total of 36 in Adelaide, the Ajinkya Rahane-led outfit won emphatically in Melbourne, drew defiantly in Sydney, and then spectacularly conquered the Gabba to clinch perhaps India’s greatest Test series triumph.

There were a plethora of memorable moments and feats from that series. One such experience, – a “scary” one – which Ravi Ashwin will remember is when they were flying from Melbourne to Sydney and the plane was caught in a thunderstorm.

Ravi Ashwin Recalled A Life-Threatening Flight Experience

“We were flying to Sydney and the flight encountered a thunderstorm. It was so scary that for a moment, I thought that the flight would never land,” Ashwin recalled at the trailer launch of the web series on Voot ‘Bandon Mein Tha Dum’, which tells the story of India’s victory against all odds.

Ravi Ashwin had, in fact, also tweeted about the flight at that time and while fans didn’t really realize what Ashwin was talking about then, now they would know.

Ashwin was at the forefront of India’s history-etching series win with both bat and ball. He missed out from the Brisbane Test due to injury, but hurt the Aussies a lot in the first three Tests.

The off-spinner finished as India’s second-highest wicket-taker with 12 scalps in 3 Tests, including dismissing Steve Smith thrice. His other memorable contribution from that series was when he paired up with Hanuma Vihari to save the Sydney Test despite both batsmen struggling with injuries.
