India’s test specialist Ravi Ashwin took a funny dig at New Zealand’s Devon Conway after he scored an unbeaten 99 runs in the 1st of the 5-T20I match series against Australia.
Well, during the just-concluded 1st New Zealand vs Australia T20I match, Devon Conway played an instrumental knock-in helping his team win the match. Devon walked out to bat at No.4 in only the third over of the game and he soon found Kane Williamson returning back to the pavilion after scoring 12 runs.
A very deserving Player of the Match award for New Zealand’s Devon Conway #NZvAUS

Conway, who made his debut sometime back, started smashing the Australian bowlers to all the corners of the ground the moment he entered the pitch. He smashed Jhye Richardson for a six on the leg-side in only the 5th over of the game. In the following over, he smashed a boundary off Kane Richardson to ensure that the runs keep flowing despite the hosts losing three quick wickets.
However, the cricketer missed out on his maiden T20I century by 1 run as he remained unbeaten on 99 runs. During his knock, he smashed 10 fours and 3 sixes.
Meanwhile, social media was soon flooded with amazing reactions from Twitterati on this. From cricketers, fans to experts everyone took to their social media and applauded the performance of Devon Conway.
Among many, India’s test specialist Ravichandran Ashwin also took to his Twitter and hailed the brilliant performance of Devon Conway. In his tweet, Ravi Ashwin pointed out that that the 29-year-old batsman was ‘four days late’ for such an innings.
For the unversed, what Ravi Ashwin meant with his tweet was that Conway could’ve found himself a buyer in the recently-concluded IPL 2021 auctions that took place on Thursday, had his career-best knock had come before the auctions. Ashwin wrote:
“Devon Conway is just 4 days late, but what a knock #AUSvNZ”
