Ravi Shastri Suggests Two Future Captaincy Options For Team India

The Indian cricket team recently went through a major transformation, with Rohit Sharma taking over the responsibility of the white-ball format, replacing Virat Kohli, who will continue to lead the Indian side in the longest format of the game. Former Indian cricketer Rahul Dravid also replaced Ravi Shastri as India’s new head coach.




While team India won several crucial series both at home and overseas under the Kohli-Shastri era but an ICC title would have been the cherry on the cake. Meanwhile, Ravi Shastri named two contenders to lead the Indian cricket team in the future. Ravi Shastri, who has worked closely with all the players of the Indian side, during his tenure as the Indian head coach, would be well aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the players.

Therefore, when the former head coach was asked about the future contenders to lead the Indian side, Ravi Shastri was quick to name Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul as two potential captains in the future.

Shastri’s comments came while he was talking about Rahul Dravid, who recently replaced him as India’s new head coach, following India’s exit from the T20 World Cup campaign in October. Talking to the Indian Express, Shastri said:




“Rahul Dravid knows his job. All I want to say to him is enjoy. KL Rahul is there, Shreyas Iyer has good leading qualities in the future especially in white-ball cricket,”

For the unversed, both KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer have led their respective franchises in the Indian Premier League and it would be interesting to see their rise. While KL Rahul has already been named as India’s new Test vice-captain for the series against South Africa. The announcement was made after Rohit Sharma was ruled out of the three-match series with a hamstring injury. On the other hand, Shreyas Iyer is yet to be introduced into the leadership group of the Indian team.
