Ravindra Jadeja starred with the ball and in the field for India in their World Cup 2023 group-stage encounter against Bangladesh on Thursday in Pune.
Ravindra Jadeja was India’s best bowler on the show today, returning with brilliant figures of 2/38 in his 10 overs, on what he said was a good batting pitch and no help for the spinners. He also grabbed a stunning catch of veteran Bangladesh batsman Mushfiqur Rahim, who was dismissed for 38 runs due to Jadeja’s mind-blowing catch at the point position off the bowling of Jasprit Bumrah.
Rahim could have scored more runs but his knock was ended by a superb diving catch from Ravindra Jadeja.
Rahim cut a back-of-length ball from Bumrah and it would have perhaps raced away for four. But Jadeja dived to his left and pouched the ball with both his hands.
Immediately after getting up from the ground, Jadeja celebrated toward the Indian dressing room, making a medal gesture toward fielding coach T Dilip. The Indian team has started a new tradition of awarding a medal to the best fielder of the team in the game.
Jadeja said about his celebration: “The celebration was dedicated to our fielding coach. After every game, we get best fielder award and so I wanted to show the fielding coach, see I am here”

Ravindra Jadeja: “I think wicket looks very good, there was no turn on the wicket, if we play simple cricket, we can chase it. The celebration was dedicated to our fielding coach. After every game, we get best fielder award and so I wanted to show the fielding coach, see I am here. I would say flat wicket, ball was coming nicely onto the bat, hopefully our batters can bat well in the middle and chase it down. You have to bowl into the stumps, there is nothing on the wicket for the spinners, so you have to bowl it tight.”
Bangladesh’s interim skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto had won the toss and elected to bat first. Bangladesh posted 256/8 in 50 overs.
