India’s star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who is out of action since August 2022, is all set to make his comeback on-field. He will be seen in action for his domestic team Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy.
For the unversed, Jadeja suffered a knee injury during the Asia Cup 2022, following which he had to undergo surgery and since then he has been missing from the Indian set-up as he has been recovering. Jadeja wasn’t included in for the home series against Sri Lanka and New Zealand. The Indian cricket team will be up against Australia in the much-awaited edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The selectors have also named Jadeja in the 17-man Test squad for the first half of the ongoing four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which starts in Nagpur on February 9. While Jadeja has been named in the 17-man squad for the Test series against Australia, however, the BCCI had also stated that Jadeja’s inclusion is subject to his fitness ahead of the series.
Ahead of the series, Ravindra Jadeja has been included in the star-studded squad, which includes the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Jaydev Unadkat as well. The all-rounder will be joining the team on Sunday.
“His training and workload will be as per the National Cricket Academy (NCA) protocols. In fact, I had sent Jaddu a WhatsApp text saying that the boys are really excited to have him back. He immediately wrote back saying he is looking forward to catching up with the team. It’s been a while since he played Ranji Trophy for Saurashtra. A player of that calibre joining the team is a huge morale boost as well,” Niraj Odedra, Saurashtra’s coach, told Sportstar.
Saurashtra is scheduled to face Tamil Nadu in the Elite Group B game in an away fixture. The game will be played from January 24 to 27 at Jadeja’s second home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium. This will be Jadeja’s first game in five months.
