Royal Challengers Bangalore had a rollercoaster ride at the IPL auction. RCB had high hopes for signing Australian stars like Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins in the IPL 2024 auction. However, despite bidding wars for both players, RCB had to settle for Lockie Ferguson and Alzarri Joseph as they were outbid for the Australians. RCB also wanted uncapped Indian pacer Kartik Tyagi but ended up with former Gujarat Titans pacer Yash Dayal. The auction didn’t go as planned for RCB, and fans were left wondering about the team’s strategy.
Fans Are Disappointed With RCB’s Performance At IPL 2024 Auction
RCB faced strong criticism from netizens on Tuesday as they surpassed the ₹20 crore mark in the bidding for Australia captain Pat Cummins at the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai.
RCB initially entered the bid for Cummins at ₹5 crore and engaged in a fierce battle with Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians, and Sunrisers Hyderabad. The bidding war escalated, with RCB going up to ₹20.25 crore for Cummins, even though they only had ₹23.75 crore left in their purse.
However, RCB eventually withdrew at the last minute, and Sunrisers Hyderabad secured Cummins’s services for a staggering ₹20.50 crore. Cummins had a base price of ₹2 crore.
RCB had let go of players like Harshal Patel, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Josh Hazlewood before the auction. As fans eagerly compared RCB’s bowling attack in IPL 2024 to the previous season, reality didn’t quite live up to expectations.
Disappointed with RCB’s revamped bowling unit, fans turned to social media to express their sentiments through humorous “expectations vs reality” memes. The unexpected twists in the auction left fans both puzzled and amused, prompting creative reactions online.
