Virat Kohli continues to have a forgettable season, on an individual front with the bat as he was dismissed for just 7 runs facing 8 balls against Rajasthan Royals in the Qualifier 2 of the IPL 2022, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Virat Kohli got past his first hurdle of Trent Boult and his left-arm angle with the new ball; he even slashed the Kiwi speedster for a six over the deep square leg boundary after taking steps down the pitch.
These were ominous signs for Sanju Samson‘s team as Kohli had shown that he’s returning to his best in the last league match against Gujarat Titans – who have arguably the best bowling attack in the tournament – with a match-winning 73.
However, the big knock wasn’t to happen today as he edged Prasidh Krishna to wicket-keeper Sanju Samson in the second over. With smart planning and accurate execution of it, Krishna had almost forced the false shot from Kohli.
He bowled two dots – both into his body and swinging in. So when the next ball moved away, and on a short length, Kohli and his hands promptly went after it looking to work it towards the third man. But, with the pace in the pitch and the extra bounce that Krishna generates from his height, it took the outside edge of Kohli’s bat and Samson pouched it safely.
Kohli put his head down and walked rapidly towards the RCB dugout, the camera showing the backdrop of RR players celebrating and the Ahmedabad crowd dejected.
Fans on social media too were disappointed, and frustrated with what is now Kohli’s 7th single-digit score in 16 innings this season. He averaged now 22, at a strike rate of 115 – his worst season in 13 years.
