Rinku Singh played one of the most famous knocks in the IPL history as his 5 sixes off the last 5 balls of the match between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) sealed an unbelievable heist at the Narendra Modi stadium.
Singh had the strike when KKR needed 28 runs off the last 5 balls and the left-hander smashed Yash Dayal for 5 sixes in a row to complete a miraculous comeback from KKR who were 155/7 in the chase of 205.
These 30 runs clattered by Rinku broke a big record of the 20th over in the IPL of two all-time grats – MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma.
30 runs by Rinku Singh are now the most runs scored by a batsman in the last over of a successful run-chase in the IPL history.
Most runs by a batter in 20th Over off a Successful Runchase:
Rinku Singh – 30 vs GT, 2023*
Rohit Sharma – 22 vs KKR, 2009
MS Dhoni – 22 vs PBKS, 2016
Rinku Singh does the unthinkable:
He was batting on 3*(6) when from the non-striker’s end he saw KKR lose Andre Russell, Sunil Narine, and Shardul Thakur to a terrific hat-trick from GT’s Rashid Khan that all but put the game in GT pocket. After all, at 155/7 in 16.3 overs, with 50 runs needed in 21 balls and no proper batter to partner him, not many would have given Rinku a chance to steal this game. But he did: with a 6 and 4 to Josh Little in the 19th over, the southpaw smashed Dayal for 5 consecutive sixes in the last over.
Dayal has only himself to blame as well: the first three sixes were off full tosses and the next two balls were half-length deliveries bowled with more hope than a plan that Rinku misses it. But, in his form and confidence, and his story, it almost felt inevitable that destiny wanted Rinku to have his moment. And what a moment. Simply INSANE.
UNBELIEVABLE is the word, if you’re still searching for it with your jaws hanging.

In the post-match presser, Rinku Singh said: “Had the belief that I can do it. Last year I was in a similar situation in Lucknow. Had the belief back then too. Didn’t think too much out there. Those shots just happened one after the other. That last one was back of the hand, and I struck it off the back foot.”
