"We Wanted Nortje..." Rishabh Pant Reveals The Reason Behind not Using Anrich Nortje Against Riyan Parag At The Start

Rishabh Pant Reveals The Reason Behind Not Using Anrich Nortje Against Riyan Parag At The Start – The match between Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals took place at the iconic Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur, adding to the excitement of the IPL 2024 season. Rishabh Pant, the captain of DC, made the decision to field first after winning the toss. DC had a strong start with the ball, taking early wickets and dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal for a mere 5 runs, Jos Buttler for 11 runs, and captain Sanju Samson for 15 runs. But then Riyan Parag emerged.

Rajasthan Royals have continued to support him despite facing criticism. While he has found success in various domestic competitions, he was yet to leave a lasting impression in the IPL. At long last, Riyan Parag has unveiled his true potential during the IPL. He skillfully formed a partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin, who impressively scored 29 runs off 19 balls. Following suit, Dhruv Jurel made a valuable contribution of 20 runs off just 12 balls. But then, everything changed. Parag absolutely dominated the final over of Anrich Nortje, smashing an impressive 25 runs with a combination of boundaries and sixes. He accumulated an impressive total of 84 runs off just 45 balls, contributing to Rajasthan Royals’ final score of 185-5 in their allotted 20 overs.

In their pursuit of the score, DC opener David Warner ended ups coring 49 runs off 34 balls, while Mitchell Marsh contributed with 23 runs off just 12 balls. Captain Rishabh Pant struggled to find his rhythm, managing to score only 28 runs off 26 balls. Tristan Stubbs gave it his all and managed to score an impressive 44 runs off just 23 balls. Unfortunately, despite their efforts, Delhi Capitals fell short and ended up losing the game by a margin of 12 runs.

Chahal and Burger were instrumental in changing the course of the game by taking two wickets each from Rajasthan Royals. Avesh Khan displayed an exceptional performance in the final over, skillfully executing yorkers that prevented Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs from hitting.

One of the turning points in the game was that final over from Anrich Nortje to Riyan Parag. Parag absolutely took apart one of the fastest bowlers in the world with 3 boundaries and two sixes. That over became the difference in the game. At the end of the game, Rishabh Pant was asked about whether he made a mistake by not bowling Anrich Nortje when Riyan Parag was new to the crease and Rajasthan were in trouble. Pant said that they have designated Nortje as the death bowler for the side.

Pant said: “Definitely disappointed. Best thing we can do from this is learn from it. The bowlers did really well till 15-16 overs, batters sometimes go on at the death and score quickly, that happened in this game. Marsh and Warner gave a good start, but we lost a few wickets in the middle overs and in the end we had too many runs to cover up. There are other options, we wanted Nortje to bowl at the death and sometimes you can go for runs, hopefully we can do better in the next match.”
