Rajasthan Royals and Delhi Capitals faced each other in their second IPL 2024 game at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur. DC captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to field first. DC got off to a very good start with the ball dismissing Yashasvi Jaiswal for just 5 runs, Jos Buttler for 11 runs and captain Sanju Samson for 15 runs. However, then Riyan Parag stepped up. Rajasthan Royals have backed him despite criticisms. He has delivered in all domestic competitions but has failed to make his mark in the IPL.
Finally Riyan Parag showed his true potential in the IPL. First he stitched together a partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin, who scored 29 runs off 19 balls. Dhruv Jurel then chipped in with 20 runs off 12 balls. However, then came the turning point. Parag smashed 25 runs off the final over of Anrich Nortje with 3 boundaries and 2 sixes. He ended up with 84 runs off 45 balls as Rajasthan Royals scored 185-5 in their 20 overs.
Chasing the score, DC opener David Warner scored 49 runs off 34 balls and Mitchell Marsh scored 23 runs off 12 balls. Captain Rishabh Pant failed to get going and scored 28 runs off 26 balls. Tristan Stubbs tried his level best and scored 44 runs off 23 balls in the end. However, it was not enough as Delhi Capitals lost the game by 12 runs. Chahal and Burger took two wickets each of Rajasthan Royals and were responsible for turning the game on its head. Avesh Khan was spectacular at the final over with his yorkers as he did not allow the likes of Axar Patel and Tristan Stubbs to get away.
