IPL 2024: “His Knees Are…” Robin Uthappa Made A Huge ‘Wheelchair’ Remark For MS Dhoni

Former India and CSK cricketer Robin Uthappa has expressed his concerns about the role of wicket-keeping for Chennai Super Kings’ captain in the upcoming 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League. Five-time champions Chennai Super Kings will kickstart the IPL with a high-voltage opening clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai. This game will mark Dhoni’s return to the field after one year.

MS Dhoni will once again captain CSK in the IPL 2024, having previously led the Chennai-based franchise to victory 5 times. His captaincy has been instrumental in securing the title for CSK in 2023, defeating Hardik Pandya-led Gujarat Titans in the final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

Robin Uthappa Made A Huge ‘Wheelchair’ Remark For MS Dhoni

Speaking to JioCinema, Uthappa emphasized that batting will never be an issue for Dhoni. He said that CSK would accommodate Dhoni in the batting line-up even if he were on a wheelchair, highlighting the trust and reliance the team has on the legend’s batting prowess. Dhoni boasts an impressive record in the IPL, having amassed 5,082 runs in 250 IPL matches, with an average of 38.79 and a strike rate of 135.92.

“CSK would let him play even if he was on a wheelchair! Get off the wheelchair, bat, and then go back. But I don’t think the batting is the issue for him, I don’t think batting will ever be an issue for him,” Uthappa said.

Further, Robin said that wicket-keeping could become an issue for Dhoni as his knees are getting worn out. It has to be noted that MS Dhoni is the most successful wicket-keeper in IPL history, having claimed 142 catches while being involved in 42 stumpings. Robin added:

“I think it’s the wicketkeeping. The knees are getting worn out and he loves keeping. So, because he won’t be able to stand there and add value, he’ll probably move on from the game than for any other reason,”

After undergoing knee surgery following the 2023 season, Dhoni regained full fitness for the IPL 2024. CSK and IPL fans were excited to see him back in action during practice sessions in Chennai.
