Riyan Parag, often criticized for not capitalizing on his IPL opportunities, began the 2024 season with a strong performance on Sunday.
Batting at No. 4, Riyan Parag seized his chance and performed exceptionally well against the LSG bowling attack, which featured players like Ravi Bishnoi, Krunal Pandya, Mohsin Khan, and Naveen ul Haq. With the failure of RR’s regular opening duo, Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal, it was their captain Sanju Samson and Riyan Parag who anchored the innings at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. The pair forged a vital 93-run partnership.
In the IPL 2024 game against Lucknow Super Giants, Riyan Parag played excellently, scoring 43 runs from just 29 balls. He hit one four and three sixes during his innings. Parag had been performing well in domestic cricket recently, and he continued his good form in the IPL. His innings received a lot of praise on social media for his impressive effort.
Robin Uthappa Takes A Dig At Riyan Parag After Comeback Knock

Meanwhile, former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa praised Riyan Parag for his impressive batting display in Rajasthan Royals’ IPL 2024 opener against Lucknow Super Giants on March 24 in Jaipur. Uthappa commended Parag for showcasing his batting prowess on the field rather than merely talking about it. Parag’s partnership with RR captain Sanju Samson was instrumental in setting a target of 194 runs for LSG to chase.
Uthappa applauded Parag for his innings against LSG, also commending his change in approach in the IPL.
“It is good to see Riyan Parag doing well in the first match. Earlier he used to talk more on X and do less. This time he is finally letting his bat talk,” Uthappa told JioCinema.
Uthappa further suggested that Parag drew inspiration from his teammates at Rajasthan Royals. He said: “I think the inspiration came from Yashasvi Jaiswal, because he was someone who worked really hard at the RR academy for the last couple of years. I think his success in the last IPL has pushed a lot of the other players to draw inspiration from that and put in the kind of work. Riyan is one of them who put his hand up and said that – I am going to get to work,”
