Former India all-rounder Roger Binny was announced as the new BCCI President on Tuesday, replacing former India skipper Sourav Ganguly, who had held the office since 2019. Roger Binny is the 36th BCCI president.

A right-arm seamer, Roger Binny had played a crucial role in India winning their first-ever World Cup back in 1983; Binny took 18 wickets in the tournament, which was a record at that time in the World Cup.

Roger Binny played 27 Tests and 72 ODIs for India, snapping up 47 and 77 wickets respectively in the two formats between 1979 and 1987. He’s the father of Stuart Binny, the former India all-rounder who played 6 Tests, 14 ODIs and 3 T20Is, and 95 IPL matches, and holds the record for the best bowling figures by an Indian in ODIs, 6/4.

The 67-year-old has plenty of prior experience in administration. He served in different positions at the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) and was its president since 2019. Prior to that, Roger Binny also was part of the KSCA administrations led by Anil Kumble (2010-12).

Binny is the first Anglo-Indian of Scottish origin to play cricket for India. He attended the Montfort School in Tamil Nadu, St. Germain’s Academy in Bangalore, and ST. Joseph’s Indian High School PU College in Bangalore for his education.
