Rohit Sharma has been in troubled waters ever since the tour of South Africa started. After a poor run of form in the test series, things only worsened for him in the ongoing ODI series but the 5th ODI brought him a great relief. Rohit Sharma was finally amongst runs and Port Elizabeth turned out to be generous for him.

Rohit smashed his 17th ODI ton and it came at a time when a big inning was due from his bat. Courtesy Rohit’s ton Indian went on to win the 5th ODI and with that sealed the series.
India defeated South Africa as the hosts fell short of 73 runs. With a 4-1 lead in the series India has now won its first ODI series in South Africa. Virat Kohli and his men have scripted history and the nation is delighted

Expressing his joy of having scored a ton finally in South Africa, Rohit Sharma said

“Long time coming. I had a good time in the middle; as the game went on the wicket got slower and slower. Always a good feeling when you score a hundred and your team wins the match. We stuck to our plans and am glad it came off. I try to keep myself in the right frame of mind and it paid off.”

“I knew I didn’t have to change a lot and the runs would come. I kept hitting the ball well and the confidence was there that I would score. We were in a spot of bother when I got to my century and that’s why the celebrations were low key.

When you get in you’ve got to make it count and unless you play a bad shot you don’t really get out. The rest of guys put in the runs in the last game and it was my day today.”
