Former Indian cricketer and cricket expert Aakash Chopra is of the opinion that Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma must open the batting despite the presence of the likes of Chris Lynn and Quinton de Kock.
Rohit Sharma has been fantastic for MI as a skipper but as a batsman, he hasn’t taken the IPL by storm yet.

Aakash Chopra believes that if Rohit Sharma is able to find his mojo and if he is able to show the kind of consistency that he shows for India in the IPL, there will be no stopping the Mumbai Indians from entering into the playoffs of IPL 2020.
“I am going for Rohit Sharma to be Mumbai Indians’ tournament protector. Because if Rohit Sharma opens the batting for MI, I have no doubt that he will do well. If he scores around 500 runs in IPL 2020, he can surely perform the role of tournament protector to perfection,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel.
Injury to Rohit Sharma can be a big threat for Mumbai Indians: Aakash Chopra
While Aakash Chopra could not find any major threats for the Mumbai Indians, one threat that he felt might be plausible would be an injury to their talisman Rohit Sharma.
Rohit is like a rock at the top of the order and anchors the innings be it while posting big totals or while chasing. Thus there is no one of his stature and experience to replace him at the top of the order.
This makes it clear that an injury to Rohit could prove to be very costly for the Mumbai Indians.
Another threat that Aakash Chopra spoke about was the worrying form of Chris Lynn. The hard-hitting Australian was bought by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL 2020 auction.
But he had a very poor Caribbean Premier League where he failed to impress anyone. Thus if he wanted to be an X factor for the Mumbai Indians, he had to step up his game and show some good form for them.
“From an individual’s perspective, I feel an injury to Rohit Sharma will be a real threat for the Mumbai Indians. Because there is no one around him who has a bank of runs. Chris Lynn’s form will also be a threat,” Aakash Chopra said.
The Mumbai Indians will begin their IPL 2020 campaign against the Chennai Super Kings on 19th September in Abu Dhabi.
