India’s Squad For World Cup 2023: India skipper Rohit Sharma and BCCI chief selector Ajit Agarkar have finally announced India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI World Cup 2023. Rohit Sharma and Ajit addressed a press conference and revealed India’s squad for the upcoming World Cup on Tuesday.

India has picked seven batters, four bowlers, and four all-rounders for ODI World Cup. India has decided to go ahead with KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, who have just returned from injuries. On the other hand, Sanju Samson and Tilak Varma were left out of the squad. India has gone with three left-arm spinners while three specialist pacers have been picked.

Regarding KL Rahul, Ajit Agarkar said, “KL Rahul has been a prolific run scorer at No.5, we’ll have a conversation with both of them”.

Ishan Kishan and Rahul are the wicketkeeping options while all-rounder Hardik Pandya has been named as the vice-captain for the Indian team.

Among the biggest absentees was Yuzvendra Chahal, who wasn’t picked in the Indian squad for the Asia Cup. Chahal has failed to find a place in the World Cup squad either. Suryakumar Yadav, despite his struggles in the 50-over format, retains his spot in the squad.

Speaking about India’s squad for World Cup 2023, Rohit Sharma said: “There are players who are going to miss but that happens every World Cup. There are no surprises over there. The talent we have in India, it is hard…I have gone through it, i know how it feels. You have to keep your chin up…it was about how to create good balance, keep good all-round options…this is the best 15 we could get.”

“If you have quality players in the team, challenges (to select an XI) go up….we have to know our opponents, who are the players we have in form.”

Our endeavour will be do to do the best for the team on a given day.”

“We need to create both bowling and batting depth…that is what was lacking in our team for a few years. When you talk about batting depth, the No. 8 and No. 9 positions become very crucial…We have spoken to the bowlers…how they need to put their hand up to do the job for the team with the bat as well….it’s just that you got to be mindful of what you do…i will try to use my resources the best I can.”
