Captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first, however, team India started on a disappointing note as their fielding performance in this match was far from impressive.

More than the bowlers, the fielders let India down in the first six overs, as the fielders failed to capitalize on the opportunities on the opportunities. In the initial overs, three easy catches were dropped. Indian cricket fans were left disappointed after Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, and Ishan Kishan dropped three catches to give a strong start to Nepal in the group match in the Asia Cup 2023 on Monday.

Firstly, Shreyas Iyer dropped an easy catch at first slip on the last ball of the first over. On the very next ball. Kohli dropped an easy catch off Aasif Sheikh on the innings’ only seventh ball at cover. Aasif went on to smash a brilliant fifty and seemed in good rhythm for a big knock at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium. A few overs later, Ishan Kishan also dropped a simple catch off Mohammed Shami’s bowling.

The dropped catches turned out to be costly for team India as it allowed the Nepal opening pair Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh to capitalize. The duo added 65 runs in the first powerplay before Shardul Thakur provided India with the first breakthrough by dismissing Bhurtel.

India’s performance was disappointing against Pakistan as well during their tournament opener. The game witnessed a collapse of India’s top order.
