Analysts Have Found Out The Biggest Weakness In Rohit Sharma’s Batting

Rohit GangulyBy Rohit GangulyUpdated:08/02/2023No Comments3 Mins Read

Rohit Sharma: In a singular piece of stat, Mumbai Indians‘ skipper Rohit Sharma’s jocular was exposed. Sharma is one of the best batsmen you would ever come across.
In fact, in today’s game, he got off to a flyer as he took Deepak Chahar to the cleaners with a classic drive. However, when he was exposed to leg-spin, he got too restless and played an extremely poor shot to be dismissed.
This tweet stated that Rohit Sharma is a master of playing pace and off-spin that sees him scoring at a breezy rate of 8.2 runs per over and at a decent average of 29.52.

However, the same numbers dip down to an abysmal 5.77 runs per over and an average of 13 whenever he is up against slow left-arm bowlers and leg-spinners.

In his last three IPL seasons, Rohit Sharma averages 29.52 and scores at 8.2rpo when facing pace, and off spin – when facing SLA and leg spin, he averages 13.00 and scores at 5.77rpo. #MIvCSK #ipl2020

Precisely, bowlers who can pitch in with those magic balls, especially the googly that angles away from him puts him in trouble.
Going by the numbers, Sunil Narine and Amit Mishra left him rattled in the tournament as they claimed him a whopping six times. Narine is an off-spinner but he chips in with that menacing googly too frequently and he can make the ball move away from Sharma that eventually makes him discombobulated.
Amit Mishra is a classic leg-spinner and loves to peal the ball away from the Indian vice-captain that hasn’t really sat well with him. As a result, he got dismissed six times.

Coming to today’s game, Piyush Chawla exactly pulled off the same antique as he flighted the delivery to Rohit Sharma and angled it away from the batsman. In an attempt to smack him over the cover, he miscued his shot and ended up holing out to Sam Curran.
Now we are all aware of the fact, that if Rohit Sharma manages to hang in there for 8-10 overs, he won’t relent unless he has taken away the game from the opposition.
Keeping in mind this glaring vulnerability of him, captains may choose to introduce leg spinners or slow left-arm bowlers early in the game to take that breathing space from the Hitman.
