Rohit Sharma-led Mumbai Indians defeated table-toppers Gujarat Titans by 27 runs in match number 57 of the ongoing 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League at the Wankhede Stadium. This was Mumbai’s fourth win in their previous five matches as they’ve now managed to jump to the third position on the points table.

Suryakumar Yadav Played An Incredible Knock

It was a memorable day for their star batter Suryakumar Yadav as he slammed his maiden century in the Indian Premier League, extending his purple patch over the last few games. Surya’s knock of an unbeaten 103 helped Mumbai post a total of 218 runs. He broke multiple records with his sensational outing with the bat.

Suryakumar Yadav came out to bat in the 7th over after GT’s star Rashid Khan dismissed Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan in the same over to put MI in a spot of bother. But from thereon, SKY took the GT bowlers to the cleaners and played one of the best knocks of his IPL career. His stunning knock of 103* runs off 49 balls was laced with 11 boundaries and six maximums.

Rohit Sharma Revealed His Conversation With SKY

Meanwhile, later after the game, Rohit Sharma was a proud captain as his team defeated the table-toppers. He said that it was pleasing for them to win the game while defending at their home ground – Wankhede Stadium but he felt that the bowlers could have done well at the death.

Rohit also heaped praise on Suryakumar and the confidence that he brings to the table. He said:

Yeah, it was an interesting game. Especially from our point of view, it was good to win the game. And in the end, the crowd got some enjoyment. That was from our perspective it was quite pleasing, to defend the total this way, not the way it ended though,”

He added:

“Till the 15th over we bowled well, but in the end the dew came in. It was a great effort from the bowlers. At the start of the game, we thought about whether we needed to go for a left and right combination, but Surya came and said NO, I want to go in. That’s the kind of confidence he brings up and rubs off on the guys who are batting with him. He comes really fresh in every game, it’s good for the Indian team too. It’s sometimes easy to sit back and be proud of it, but he doesn’t do that he just comes fresh in every game.”

Mumbai Indians will now play their next game against Lucknow on May 16th at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow.
