IND vs WI: Rohit Sharma Creates New All-Time Record In Test History

In the past couple of years, while his game in white-ball cricket has dipped, Rohit Sharma has found a late second wind in his Test career.

An all-time legend in limited-overs cricket, India skipper Rohit Sharma has been one of India’s best Test batters in the last couple of years. While once trolled for his inconsistency and his lack of temperament in the red-ball game, now Rohit Sharma has become Mr. Dependable of Team India in the longest format.

This new all-time world-record created by Rohit Sharma reflects his consistency in Test

Rohit Sharma now holds the record for most consecutive scores of double-digits in Test cricket, that is 30.

Rohit Sharma created a new all-time world record in Test cricket on Sunday when he cracked a six to West Indies pacer Kemar Roach in the third over of India’s second innings in the ongoing 2nd Test in Port Of Spain.

This is a sensational record created by Rohit that indicates that he’s been getting good starts for his team and has shown brilliant technique and temperament to negate the new ball. And that he’s not been dismissed for a single-digit score in his last 30 innings.

Something which the likes of Bradman, Sachin Tendulkar, Virat Kohli, and Smith couldn’t do – it is Rohit Sharma who has done this.

Reaching double figures in most consecutive innings:
30* – Rohit Sharma (2021-23*)
29 -Mahela Jayawarene (2001-02)
25 -Len Hutton (1951-53)
25 -Rohan Kanhai (1961-65)
24 -Mahela Jayawarene (2002-04)
24 -AB de Villiers (2012-14)

This is exemplary for all upcoming young openers, including Rohit’s new opening partner Yashasvi Jaiswal, on the temperament and technique neede to tackle the new, swinging ball across conditions.

This run of 30 consecutive double-digit for Rohit Sharma started in the 2021 home series against England. In that home series he hit a century in Chennai, on a turning track against England; and later that year, against the same opposition, in difficult conditions in England, he scored 83 at Lord’s and 127 at the Oval.

Then, earlier this year, on another turning pitch in Nagpur, Rohit assembled a terrific century against Australia. Against Australia in the WTC Final, Rohit played an attacking knock of 43 at The Oval in India’s second innings, leading the charge from the front, but couldn’t carry on to record a big score.

He has started the WTC 2023/25 cycle with scores of 103 and 80 against West Indies.
