Indian captain Rohit Sharma is currently leading the Indian cricket team in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy series. Under his leadership, the Men in Blue has gotten off to a scintillating start to the 4-match Test series against Australia.

India handed over an embarrassing defeat to Australia by n innings and 132 runs in the first Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Nagpur. The Indian bowlers ran through the Australian batting line-up, as no Australian batsman was able to tackle the Indian spin bowlers.

The fact that the Indian side batted for just one inning shows the unreal dominance of their approach. During the first innings, Rohit Sharma played a captain’s knock and led the batting unit by example as he chipped in with 120 runs including 16 fours and two sixes.

Rohit Sharma Writes History In Golden Words

The Indian batting superstar, who is fondly called Hitman Sharma by his fans, etched his name into the record books as he achieved quite a unique feat in international cricket. This is the first time in the history of this game that team India has achieved the no.1 ranking in all the formats of the game at the same time.

It has to be noted, that the feat came during the captaincy era of Rohit Sharma. Thus, the 35-year-old became the first-ever Indian captain to achieve this milestone. It is also worth mentioning that the Indian cricket team achieved the no.1 in the 50-over format last month when they defeated the New Zealand cricket team by 3-0 at home.

Before India registered a complete whitewash over New Zealand, they defeated Sri Lanka and inflicted a 3-0 ODI series whitewash.

Talking about the ongoing 4-match Test series against Australia, the Rohit Sharma-led squad still needs to get the better of Australia in the upcoming Test match at Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi in order to get hold of the top spot and to book a spot for them in the World Test Championship Final.
