India captain Rohit Sharma gave a hilarious reaction when asked about Sachin Tendulkar’s statue and it left the journalists in the press room in bursts of laughter.

A grand statue of Sachin Tendulkar was unveiled on Wednesday at the Wankhede Stadium near the Sachin Tendulkar stand as a tribute from the MCA (Maharashtra Cricket Association) to the career and life of India’s greatest cricketing icon.

The statue was revealed in front of many dignitaries including the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, and Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis.

This event took place on the eve of India’s match against Sri Lanka in the World Cup 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium. Rohit Sharma and Team India were practicing in the nets when the statue was unveiled.

In the press conference at the evening, Rohit Sharma was asked of the statue in which Tendulkar is modeled as playing a lofted drive. A journalist asked a question about Rohit, who also played domestic cricket for Mumbai, and his lofted shot.

Rohit Sharma was a bit confused about the question but answered it by saying that he saw the statue from far away and then went into the nets to practice. Rohit hilariously added, “Ab kya bolu main usme, straight lofted shot ka statue banaya hai.”

This left the journalists in the press room in splits and their laughter could be heard.

Rohit said: “Yes, we saw it when we came to practice, but couldn’t see from close by. Our practice was also delayed by the media manager. But yeah, we will get to see it closely later. I haven’t yet see what shot is that.”

“What more can I say, they have made a statue of a straight lofted shot. It’s nice, I hope you guys enjoyed it, we saw the statue, it’s fantastic,” added the India skipper.

India have 6 wins in 6 games in the World Cup 2023. A victory over Sri Lanka in Mumbai will seal their place in the semi-final.
