India head coach Rahul Dravid has provided a massive update on India’s all-format skipper Rohit Sharma’s availability for the rescheduled fifth Test against England in Edgbaston. Rahul Dravid made it clear that Rohit Sharma, who tested positive recently for Covid-19, has not been officially ruled out of the much-awaited 5th Test match against England in Edgbaston on Friday.

Rohit has not been ruled out – Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid was asked if Rohit is available or not, Dravid said that the medical team is still monitoring the captain. However, Dravid didn’t confirm what the plan of action will be if he is not fit to play on time.
“He is being monitored by Indian team, Rohit has not been ruled out, we have still got 36 hours, so he will have a test later tonight and then in morning. It is upto medical team and sports science to take a better call.”
He added: “It is better than confirmation to who is captain comes from official sources”.
Well, as per a report by ESPNcricinfo, Rohit Sharma will undergo two further tests – one that was done this evening and the next one on Thursday – before the Indian side takes a final decision on whether to include him or not in the Test, which kickstarts on Friday.

Will Jasprit Lead The Side?
Further, when Dravid was asked if Jasprit Bumrah is the choice to lead the Indian side if Rohit is not available, Dravid said that call has to be taken by the selection committee led by Chetan Sharma.
It has to be noted that earlier in the day, it was reported by PTI that Rohit Sharma had been ruled out of the much-awaited Test match after testing positive for Covid-19 for the second time on Wednesday. The report also claimed that in his place, Jasprit Bumrah will lead the team.
If this happens, Jasprit Bumrah will become the first Indian pacer to lead the Indian side since the great Kapil Dev, who had last led the Indian side in 1987. Interestingly, Jasprit will become the 6th Indian player to lead the team in the ongoing year.
