While the IPL 2024 auction occupied the minds and talks of the fans on Tuesday, Ruturaj Gaikwad got out for only 4 runs in the 2nd ODI vs South Africa and once again got trolled mercilessly with funny memes on social media.
With two second-string sides playing against each other, without the big-name Indian players, the attention of the Indian fans was mostly on the IPL 2024 auction.
However, as fans looked at the scorecard of the India vs South Africa 2nd ODI in Gqeberha, the second consecutive failure of Ruturaj Gaikwad disappointed and frustrated the fans. more so because Yashasvi Jaiswal was not selected for this ODI series and Gaikwad and CSK fans often say that he should replace Shubman Gill in the Indian ODI side and is the next Rohit Sharma.
So far, Ruturaj Gaikwad has failed in his two outings in South Africa on decent pitches. At the other end, young Sai Sudharsan, who is playing in his debut international series for India, has notched up two consecutive half-centuries.
In the 1st ODI in Johannesburg, Gaikwad scored just 5 runs. Today, in the second ODI in Gqeberha, he was dismissed for only 4 runs in the first over of the match by left-arm pacer Nandre Burger.
While Ruturaj Gaikwad started the innings nicely with a nice straight drive boundary to a half volley from Nandre Burger, the pacer got his revenge instantly as he dismissed the opener lbw. Burger swung the ball into Gaikwad, who failed to connect with his flick shot on the legside and was given out on the field. Gaikwad challenged the on-field call with the DRS, but it was to no avail as Hawkeye showed three reds.
