“Enforce A Draw..” Captain Rohit Sharma Wants India To Win The Cape Town Test And Draw The Series

In a significant setback for the Indian cricket team, they faced a resounding defeat by 32 runs and an innings against South Africa in the opening test at Centurion. Despite noteworthy performances from KL Rahul in the first inning and Virat Kohli in the second, the Indian batters struggled against the formidable pace, bounce, and movement of the South African pacers.

The third and fourth seamers, Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna, failed to make a substantial impact, conceding runs at a rate of 5 runs per over, emerging as a major factor in India’s loss. Looking ahead, the team is gearing up for the final test of the series scheduled to commence on January 3 at Cape Town.

SA vs IND: Rohit Sharma wants India to win the Cape Town Test

Captain Rohit Sharma addressed the media in a pre-game press conference, emphasizing the team’s hunger and intent, particularly given the youthful composition. He stressed the importance of the primary goal – levelling the series – and urged the team to, at the very least, prevent the opposition from securing a victory and strive for a draw in the series.

Dismissing the significance of exclusive individual achievements, Rohit highlighted the collective pride the team takes in playing for India away from home, with a focus on winning games and series. The captain emphasized the meticulous approach in team discussions, centered around strategies for securing victories in the challenging five-day format.

Rohit Sharma underscored the essence of hard work and patience in Test matches, recognizing the need for sustained effort and focus over an extended period. Despite the relative inexperience of some players in South African conditions, he expressed confidence in the team’s understanding of the challenges and their ability to secure victories.

Here is what Rohit said:

“The hunger intent in the team is quite good, because all are young lads. If you don’t have hunger at a young age then it makes no sense. When you go on a tour, the biggest goal is to win the series. If you can’t then atleast don’t allow the opposition to win and enforce a draw.

This exclusive list, it doesn’t matter to me. We take a lot of pride in playing for India away for home and winning games and series. Even the team discussions are based on the fact as to how we can win. What all things are needed to be done. Because Test matches are not a game that will be finished in 1-2 sessions. It is 5-day game and you need to stay in the game for a long.

To get the results, you need to work hard and have patience. The boys know that well, despite having not played many Test matches in South Africa. They know what challengers and there and how to win.”

Rohit Sharma’s words conveyed a strong sense of determination, emphasizing the team’s commitment to overcoming challenges, learning from experiences, and striving for success in the upcoming crucial test match at Cape Town. India will look to bounce back and level the series at 1-1
