It was Deja Vu for Stuart Broad and the Indian fans as the England seamer conceded 35 runs – 35! – to Jasprit Bumrah – Bumrah! – in one over of the Edgbaston Test – Test! – on the morning of Day 2.
Jasprit Bumrah Made An Absolute Mockery Of Stuart Broad
This is now a world record for the most expensive over in Test cricket as Broad went past the previous record of 28 runs each on three different occasions – Brian Lara to Robin Peterson, Johannesburg 2003; George Bailey to James Anderson, Perth 2013; and Keshav Maharaj to Joe Root, Port Elizabeth 2020.
Stuart Broad already holds the record for most runs conceded in an over in T20Is – when Yuvraj Singh whacked him for six sixes in the 2007 T20 World Cup, along with Sri Lanka’s Akila Dananjaya, who was also walloped for 6 maximums in an over by Kieron Pollard last year.
Expectedly, Broad was trolled mercilessly on social media after each of his delivery produced astonishing results as his short ball ploy unravelled against Bumrah, culminating in an incredible over where 35 runs were smashed.
Sachin Tendulkar Trolled Stuart Broad
Legendary Indian batsman Sachin Tendulkar too joined the bandwagon and made a joke about this, saying that he is confused whether it was Bumrah who was batting or Yuvraj Singh from 2007!
“Kya yeh Yuvi hai ya Bumrah!? 2007 ki yaad dilaa di.. @YUVSTRONG12 @Jaspritbumrah93 #ENGvIND,” Tendulkar tweeted.

Bumrah will happily take the pleasure of consigning Stuart Broad of this unwanted record, especially in his first Test as India’s captain. Similar to last year, England’s short ball tactic against Bumah backfired horribly.
While the over started with a couple of top edges and an inside edge – in between was a wide boundary over the wicket-keeper – all racing toward the boundary behind the square, Broad fumbled with a waist-high full toss that Bumrah dispatched for four followed by a boundary on the leg side before he smoked Broad over fine leg for a six, and concluded the over with a single to take the tally to 35.
The over read: 4, Wd5, Nb6, 4, 4, 4, 6, 1.
