Sandeep Lamichhane Is Currently Confronting An Eight-year Prison Term For Rape

Sandeep Lamichhane, the Nepalese leg-spinner, is currently confronting an eight-year prison term following a verdict from the Kathmandu District Court on January 10. Judge Shishir Raj Dhakal presided over the case, imposing not only the substantial prison sentence but also a fine of Rs.3 lakh. Furthermore, Lamichhane has been instructed to pay Rs.2 lakh in compensation to the victim.

The charges stem from a complaint lodged by a woman in September 2022, alleging that Lamichhane had committed rape in August 2021. The protracted trial and inquiry concluded on December 29, 2023, with Lamichhane being found guilty. The culmination of this legal process led to the court’s decision on January 10, 2024, when the gravity of the penalty was officially disclosed. This unfortunate development marks a significant and distressing chapter in the career of the former Nepal cricket captain.
