Former Indian cricketer and popular commentator Sanjay Manjrekar slammed Ajinkya Rahane after the Indian vice-captain’s call for a run led to Virat Kohli’s wicket during the crucial stage of the game on Day 1 of the Adelaide Test match.

The Indian skipper looked all set to bring his first century of the year however he was run-out because of the horrible mix-up between Ajinkya Rahane and him.

It happened during the 77th over, Ajinkya Rahane hit the ball straight to the mid-off fielder Jaze Hazlewood and called the skipper for a single. Virat went for a full sprint without even looking back. But just then Rahane asked Kohli to go back and Kohli had no other option but to sacrifice his own wicket at 74 runs.

Ajinkya Rahane realized the mistake and apologized to Virat, who remained calm and walked off to the pavilion dejected. The unfortunate run-out led to the collapse of India and turned out to be the biggest advantage for the hosts.

Later, after the match, Sanjay Manjrekar slammed Ajinkya Rahane and also quipped that he was amazed at how Virat kept calm after the terrible mix-up. He said:

“I was amazed that Virat Kohli kept his composure. Completely the fault of his partner, there is nothing to suggest that Kohli shouldn’t have backed up that much,”

He added:

There was no run there, the fielder was too close. Kohli did the right thing, he had no business to look back. A little bit of disgust was shown but those are the painful moments that compensate for all the other perks you get from the game,”
