Former Indian cricketer and popular commentator Sanjay Manjrekar lashed out on Rohit Sharma for his poor selection of shot that eventually cost him his wicket. In an attempt to take the attack on the bowlers, the Indian opener Rohit threw away his wicket after a dominant start yet again on Day 2 of the ongoing 4th Test match at the Gabba.
Though team India started the innings on a great note but soon the visitors lost their opener Shubman Gill and the pressure fell on the experienced shoulders of Rohit, who was expected to play a much bigger role in the absence of the Indian skipper Virat Kohli.
After giving a good start to the game, Rohit was batting really well as he patiently played out the fast bowlers and smashed the bad deliveries, however, he was trapped by Lyon and was dismissed just 6 runs away from scoring his half-century.
Rohit was looking all set to score some big runs before he had a ‘brain-freeze’ moment. He came down to the track in order to smash Nathan Lyon, however, he couldn’t get to the pitch of the ball and gave an easy opportunity to Mitchell Starc, who dismissed Rohit on 44 runs. In the last three innings, Rohit Sharma has had scores of 26, 52 and 44.
Meanwhile, Sanjay Manjrekar, who is a part of the commentary panel for Sony Sports took to his official Twitter account and slammed Rohit for throwing away his wicket. In his tweet, Sanjay Manjrekar expressed the importance of Rohit’s wicket and slammed him for his irresponsible shot. He also termed Sharma’s shot as ‘inexcusable’.
“Considering the experience missing in the team, that shot from an experienced Rohit Sharma was inexcusable.”
